Kids! Here's a great tip to spice up your writing. Try to "show" what's going on in your story instead of just "telling" it. Let's say one of the characters in your story is really hurt because her friends didn't wait for her. Don't just say Darcy was really hurt because her friends didn't wait for her. Instead, write something that "shows" she is sad. Use action and dialogue. Tears stung Darcy's eyelids. She blinked them back and tried to swallow the lump in her throat. "I guess nobody waited for me," she said quietly to herself. Let's say your character is really excited about his Halloween costume. Don't just say Anthony was really excited about his Halloween costume. Write something that "shows" how excited he is! Anthony put on his Halloween costume for the tenth time that day and looked at himself in the mirror. "Yessss!" he shouted, giving his reflection a high-five. Now you try. Use "showing" to change these boring story sentences. Jill hated spinach. Evan was really mad. Avery hoped she would get a Valentine. Connor was so bored. ![]() Do you love to write stories or poems?
